About Danny Palmerlee

Danny Palmerlee is a freelance writer and photographer based in Portland, Oregon. He is the main author of numerous Lonely Planet travel guides, including Argentina, Best of Buenos Aires, South America on a Shoestring, Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands and Baja California & Los Cabos. His most recent Lonely Planet book (2008) is Yosemite, Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks.

When he's not snooping around musty hotel rooms for Lonely Planet, he's either writing about travel or wracking his brain for another excuse to hit the road. His articles have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, The Miami Herald, San Francisco Chronicle and The Dallas Morning News, as well as other publications throughout the US and the world.

During his travels, Danny has endured everything from an unsolicited Berber massage in Morocco (his back was out for a week afterward), to a brutal bout of scabies in Ecuador (based on an internet search, the initial self-diagnosis was monkey herpes), to a black widow bite in Baja California. The latter occurred during 42-day research assignment for Lonely Planet. On the same trip, he drove over 4000 miles, went temporarily insane by day 35 and ate approximately 111 tacos.

His current obsession is baking bread.
